Folding chair in Bus shelter corner. The chair repeatedly shifts slightly off its marked spot. Wet asphalt stains

The folding chair rests against the shelter's back wall. Its painted metal legs are anchored near a patch of wet asphalt stain. It is positioned exactly where the corner meets the curb line, slightly elevated from the main flow of traffic. A damp newspaper always lies across the seat cushion, its edges softened by moisture and time. This arrangement has become routine. The light is failing now, pulling the deep blue tones into the glass timetable panel. The air carries a faint scent—a mix of old rain runoff and diesel exhaust that never fully dissipates. I watch the chair's base. It seems to settle again, not dramatically, but with an almost imperceptible shift in weight against the concrete foundation. This settling is always accompanied by a slow dusting of fine grit falling from the shelter’s overhang onto the wet ground near the curb. The newspaper remains undisturbed on the seat. Its ink bleeds slightly where it meets the cushion fabric. I note the discarded bus ticket stub, crumpled and faded, resting just beside one painted leg base. It is positioned too neatly for a random drop. The chair itself seems to adjust its angle by a fraction of an inch, pulling marginally away from the wall's support structure. It happens again as the twilight deepens into true dusk. A soft creak emanates from the joint where the seat frame meets the legs—a sound too deliberate for mere cooling metal. The damp paper remains in place, absorbing nothing new. It is simply waiting. I wait with it until the last streaks of orange leave the western sky and the streetlights hum into full visibility. The chair has settled back to its original, slightly wrong arrangement.
