Employees moved along the perimeter, resetting everything to its designated place before the shift began. Hands smoothed out stacks of folded t-shirts, aligning them into perfect rectangular piles against the inner wall of the container. The movement was practiced; a gentle slide across the contents that suggested routine compliance. A faint scent of cardboard dust and mild disinfectant hung in the air, settling over the metal lip of the bin. Everything else settled back into order: the stack of shirts formed precise edges, and the single rigid plastic tag lay flat against the bottom layer. Yet, when the hand lifted away, a specific detail refused to participate in the reset. Tucked among the folded fabric was one item—a small, blue t-shirt that should have been stacked vertically with its neighbors. Instead, it rested completely sideways, lying parallel to the bin's base but perpendicular to every other piece of clothing.
