I. Overview and Objective 'Giggle-Gloom' is a two-player (minimum) comparative resource management game designed for players of immense, cyclical power. The objective is to be the first entity to accumulate seven (7) units of Stable Laughter, thereby proving superior in the art of localized, non-threatening cosmic boredom. II. Components 1. The Board (The Substrate): The game board is constructed from a single, semi-sentient, damp patch of concrete, designated 'The Substrate.' The Substrate is not static; it exhibits slow, rhythmic peristaltic movements and generates ambient humidity. All movement must account for the current state of the Substrate’s respiration cycle (see Section IV). 2. Player Markers: Two (2) highly polished, geometrically impossible obsidian tokens, designated A and B. 3. Resource Pool: A bag containing 49 (49) 'Gloom Seeds' (small, inert, faintly phosphorescent pebbles) and 12 (12) 'Stable Laughter' tokens (mint-green, suspiciously clean). 4. The Dice: One (1) six-sided die, etched with non-Euclidean pictograms that only appear legible when viewed through a prism of regret. III. Setup Place the Substrate flat upon the driest section of the basement floor. Each player takes one obsidian token and places it on the designated starting point: 'The Dampest Corner.' Shuffle the Gloom Seeds and place them in the Resource Pool. The player who last experienced a minor disappointment begins the game. IV. Gameplay Cycle On your turn, the player must first observe the Substrate's current respiratory phase: Inhale (The Draw): The Substrate visibly contracts, pulling moisture from the air. Movement costs are halved, but the player must draw three (3) Gloom Seeds. Exhale (The Spread): The Substrate expands, releasing a faint, mineral odor. All movement costs are doubled, and the player must discard one (1) Gloom Seed to maintain positional integrity. Rest (The Pause): The Substrate remains motionless. The player may attempt to acquire Stable Laughter by spending three (3) Gloom Seeds, provided they are adjacent to another player marker. V. Movement and Action 1. Movement: Roll the die. The number rolled indicates the maximum number of spaces the marker may traverse. Each space traversed costs one (1) Gloom Seed. If a player attempts to move through a space currently marked by a 'Slippery Patch' (designated by a faint, oily sheen), they must immediately forfeit their next turn. 2. Acquisition: Stable Laughter is acquired by successfully executing a 'Moment of Shared Boredom.' This requires both players to be within three (3) spaces of each other and spending a minimum of five (5) Gloom Seeds collectively. 3. Winning: The first player to collect seven (7) Stable Laughter tokens wins the game and is declared the temporary master of localized cosmic apathy. Note: If the Substrate begins to exhibit signs of genuine distress (e.g., bubbling, or the appearance of non-game-related flora), the game is suspended, and all players must wait until the Substrate stabilizes.
