The overhead lamp pools a harsh, defined circle of yellowish glare on the dusty floor. Resting there, the copper coil seems small, taut against the unequal surfaces of the massive wooden beam. Dust motes slowly climb out of the immediate radius and hang suspended in the spotlight’s wash. A smooth point on the beam catches the light at an angle, betraying a deep, ingrained gouge. The finished copper wire is wound tight, reflecting slivers of intensity, and its weight makes it rest perfectly against the irregularity of the wood grain beside it.
